combine in bowl and mix
well

add gradually to the liquid
mix until a soft dough is
formed
  • turn dough out onto work surface and knead, adding flour as necessary until the dough is smooth and not sticky
  • cover with dish towl an let rest for 1/2 hour at room temperature
  • divide into 30 pieces, any way you want
  • roll each piece into a 6in snake, form into a circle, join the ends together, and press
  • drop each snake onto a plate of sugar, flip, and then place on parchment paper on a cookie sheet, 2 in apart (they will not spread)
  • bake in the middle of the oven for 30 min at 350 degF, or until lightly browned
  • cool on the parchment paper on a wire rack

reserve for brushing tops
  • roll out chunks of dough to make 3 in by 1/2 in logs
  • join ends of each log to make a circle, overlapping a bit
  • place on cookie sheet, and brush tops with beaten egg
  • bake at 350 deg F about 20 min, 'til they start to brown and to crack on top
