water to cover

(lima, black, black-eye, pea, kidney,
lentil) bring to a boil, boil 1 min,
let stand for 1 hour; drain; reserve

garlic, minced
bay leaves
black pepper, ground
saute over med high heat 5-10 min

soy sauce
veggie broth
salt to taste
add along with reserved beans and
bring to a boil, then simmer 'til
beans are done, 1 1/2 hr or so
