halve lemons lengthwise, slice thinly crosswise; discard ends

- mash mixture using potato masher in large bowl
- until sugar dissolved and
- all the juice is out of the lemons, about 4 min
the lemonade: |

- pour over ice in individual glasses
- if desired, substitute 6 limes for 3 lemons
